Monollage is my name for this type of one-of-a-kind textile art work.

It starts with an inspirational piece of cloth that I print by applying textile paint to my paint board or gel plate.  I never have a preconceived idea of what the end result will be but instead let the flow of the paint, the movement of my implements and the scrunch of the fabric dictate the pleasing effect.  Most of the time I have several goes at it, layering paint over paint to create depth.

I have a large bin of such pieces of fabric and, at some point, inspiration hits me and I can see a design emerge from a piece of cloth. I then mimic that design by sewing other pieces of painted cloth into it to expand it and then finish with embellishments.  It is finally framed with a custom frame that my husband David builds for me and I then custom paint to flatter the quilted work.  The final size of Monollage is 21″ x 21″ in keeping with the proportions in the Fibonacci Golden Ration number sequence.
