Monollage is my name for this type of one-of-a-kind textile art work, mono-printed cloth + collage.
It starts with an inspirational piece of cloth that I print by applying textile paint to my paint board or gel plate. I never have a preconceived idea of what the end result will be but instead let the flow of the paint, the movement of my implements and the scrunch of the fabric dictate the pleasing effect. Most of the time I have several goes at it, layering paint over paint to create depth. The painted cloth is then cut up, fused and collaged with other pieces then stitched to make these rigid studies.
They are tab-mounted to float onto a deep canvas that I have painted with artist’s acrylic. They come with a mini-hanging wire on the back so can hung on the wall but are equally at home sitting on a shelf.
