Description
This quilt was inspired by my echinacea bed; I love that shot of pink on my hillside. Using painter’s observations of perspective and light & shadow, this was executed with heat-set textile paints on cotton rather than water-color paint on paper. I paint on paper too but I love the way the color moves on cloth.
With its edges carefully turned under, this bloom was hand appliquéd onto a pieced design sewn from other hand-painted fabrics. Other elements of appliqué were machine stitched on and then the final square was layered with batting and a backing and sewn through to create quilted patterning.
