This series of bird studies was inspired by watching them at our back door each day when my husband David feeds them. They are his babies, they come when he calls and produce endless hours of joy and entertainment; while we are drinking coffee each morning, sipping a beverage at night and for the cats who each sit quietly undercover just to watch.
Each bird is hand-painted onto white cotton with textile paint. They are appliquéd by hand onto a landscape background that was created with textile paint and ink pencils. This is pieced by machine with with dyed and/or commercial cotton cloth, machine quilted and free-form appliqué of raw edge fabric leaves. Each is stretched and framed in maple.
