Canterbury Center Bed and Breakfast

Owners Lois Scribner and Howard Moffett welcome you to their historic 1790s Canterbury home. The historic guest house is conveniently located in the picturesque Center of Canterbury, in mid-state Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and is easily accessible from Interstate 93 and Route 132.

The three guest rooms are simply and comfortably appointed and have their own ensuite bathrooms.  Beautiful, tasteful and gorgeous historic architecture!  Lois is a great cook too so breakfast is a pleasure!  Just 2 minutes from my studio.

Fox Country Smokehouse

Second generation Mathew Fox produces delicious smoked meats, fish, sausage, nuts and cheese using traditional olde methods in the stone house his father built.  Well worth the trip on the back roads to visit him or purchase his goods on-line.

Open Tuesday – Saturday 10AM to 4PM.   Sunday 12AM to 4PM    Closed Mondays.

We welcome visitors to the farm 7 days a week, during 7 am – 7 pm. Our Farm Store is stocked with Brookford Farm pastured meats, grass-fed dairy products (raw milk, yogurt, cheeses, and cream), free-range eggs, and a full range of seasonal, certified organic vegetables.

Havn Guitars

Havn Guitars is pleased to offer high-end, hand crafted guitars built to the specifications of the musician. Guitar styles include several models of steel string guitars, electric and lap steel guitars. Each piece of wood used in the building process is chosen specifically to find the balance between bass, mid-range and treble. Special attention is paid to the responsiveness to touch and the clarity of sound of each instrument.

Repair services are also available.

Cold Garden Spirits

Distilling out of the barn of his childhood home (and former Shaker building) Greg Meeh is distilling exquisite spirits using locally sourced fruits and grains.  Greg is no stranger to excellence; he is an award winning set designer in NY so, as such, the distillery is only open on week-ends when he is home.  Just 12 minutes from my studio.

David Lamb, cabinet maker

Since 1980, David Lamb has had his own shop in Canterbury where he designs and builds furniture on commission.  He has won numerous awards and his work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Art and Antiques and the Currier Museum of Art, and also has been New Hampshire’s Artist Laureate from 2010-2014.

Petals in the Pines

Petals in the Pines is a certified outdoor classroom for nature lovers. They host kids parties, schools, garden clubs and private individuals who want to wander thru their lush grounds and learn about gardening and hold workshops. They grow over 250 varieties of flowers and offer flower arrangements by order or in their lovely farm stand.  Don’t miss the Monarch butterfly festival each September!

Someday Farm

Someday Farm is a working farm specializing in the breeding of alpacas.  Visit the farm to see them and learn more or simply visit their farm store full of luscious homemade goodies and related gifts.  They host events each year and offer educational programs by “adopting” one of their farm animals.

Farm and shop open daily June thru September and week-ends after till Thanksgiving.  OR shop their on-line store!

Canterbury Shaker Village

Canterbury Shaker Village, Inc., is an internationally-known non-profit museum founded in 1969 to preserve the heritage of the Canterbury Shakers. Designated as a National Historic Landmark for its architectural integrity and significance, the Village has 25 restored original Shaker buildings, 4 reconstructed Shaker buildings, and 694 acres of forests, fields, gardens, nature trails, and mill ponds under permanent conservation easement.

They are dedicated to preserving the 200-year legacy of the Canterbury Shakers and to providing a place for learning, reflection, and renewal of the human spirit.

Tours, self-guided walk-abouts, workshops and events.  Farm stand lunches and, during the semester, lunches and dinners served by the Lakes Region culinary Arts program at The Shaker Table Restaurant.

Hackleboro Pottery, Quilts and Braided Rugs

Kate Goegel has been a craftsperson in Canterbury since 1975. She operates a pottery studio, creates traditional hand-quilted bed quilts and designs/crafts hand-braided wool rugs. Currently her shop, which also includes a selection of folk art, framed prints and note cards, is open June through Columbus Day by chance or appointment.

Top O’ the Hill Disk Golf

A disk golf course cut into the woods and hills just down the road from me.  They have a full pro-shop as well.  I am not a disk golf player but based on the large amount of cars I see there as I drive by this is a real popular place!

Hackleboro Orchards

Delicious PYO apples and berries on top of the hill with a viewing platform worth the trip.  Rustic serve-yourself farm stand with all kinds of fruit/veggies on this working farm.  This my favorite place to pick blueberries…a peaceful setting just 5 minutes from my studio.
