Continuing the tradition…What started as creative entertainment for myself during an isolated Christmas in 2020, recording my Christmas decorations through this blog turned out to be a way to share the holiday with family and friends afar. So, again, enjoy this years inspired journey in 4 installments to see what my I can come up with this year!
My chosen life here in this part of New Hampshire is one of simple pleasures laden with country roads, gardens and traditional ways. While I sure can appreciate modernity–and my artwork surely embraces that–the simplistic idea of creating something from nothing has great appeal to me. This is what inspires me in every part of my life.
We have a new blue spruce tree in the garden that blooms all in blue which backs up to the road. This was an opportunity to continue the color scheme in the winter months. The swag on the light post is simply cool white lights strung through white branches to give an icy blue effect.Wreath on clematis trellis to the side of the house with a very naked pea fence.Like last year, my stylized holly leaf painted on thin plywood and embellished with Christmas balls decks the front door. Each window has battery-timed candles that carry us through till Valentines Day.The garden shed facing the road has been fun to showcase. This year the wheel barrel that uncle Gene made for us is holding a fresh-cut fir tree ready to be watered with a red garden watering can.Although barely anyone sees the other side of the garden shed, we can get a peak from the living room or it we trudge down through the snow. I recycled the door decorations from summer plus one of my artist challenge pieces stuck into fresh greens with faux berries that I have used here and there for many many years. I am blessed to have good friends like Gordon and Pam that give me beautiful greens each year.David’s shed stars every year with its cheery colors. Such a treat to look out at during long snowy winters. The trough has greens in it now but I wanted to use this photo with the snow,His and hers. Summer bubbler bird bath now with holiday ball. The hanging basket outside my studio door complete with mini-paintings wrapped and ready for delivery! You’ve seen those paint brushes before in that hanging basket…my mothers old Chinese brushes that I set permanently with acrylic paint colors. All sitting amongst some fresh cut holly, again, a gift from good friends Mike and Maureen.I always put my faux trees with white lights in the gallery window. The window box contains a bounty of holly gifted to us from Mike and Maureen. Only one neighbor can see it the display but it makes me feel happy knowing that it is there when I walk through the space. The forest has more space this year since we took down so many trees but still enough to wrap a few for people who drive by. Plus I can see it from my studio window!
Enjoy your season and look for another installment next week. Wishing you comfort and joy, Jane
Jane, Thank you for sending the photos of your home and the surrounding area. I’ve always admired your talented eye for color and creativity, I travel the main road frequently, your wrapped trees give off a warm welcoming glow. What a treat for our community and for all to see during the long NH winter. It doesn’t go un-noticed. Can’t wait to see the next installment.

I love all the wonderful vignettes outside. This year I painted all my outside doors the same yellow that is on David’s shed. Hope you both have a lovely holiday.
Oh how I wish I could see all your yellow doors! David decided this week (and I agreed) that picking that yellow was one of the best home-owner decisions – cheery always! Merry Christmas!
GORGEOUS!
Thank you!

Thank you so much for giving me your nod and wink. And especially for the comment about the community…that is why we do the trees; for you. 🙂

LOVE! My favorites are the simple candle lights in each window, and the garden shed with its red watering can. Well done, Jane.
Thanks for looking Deb. And I figured the shed would be one of your favs….you decorate in a similar fashion. ox
